Cadac Safari Chef Barbecue:
How to choose?

Finding the perfect grill for your needs can sometimes be difficult , especially when you have to consider size , practicality , price , and the specifics of on-the-go cooking.

This is why we have detailed for you all the differences between our Safari Chef barbecue stoves from the Cadac brand.

With this blog post, you can easily choose the Safari Chef barbecue that suits you, with the right gas cartridge and the corresponding regulator.

This way, you can cook all the recipes you want, whether for a gas barbecue or for cooking outdoors during your travels, road trips and camping trips. :)

What are the differences between the 3 models of barbecues/stoves from the Cadac brand?
There are 3 models of Safari Chef barbecue stove:
  • Safari Chef “HP” (High Pressure) works directly on an EN417 screw gas cartridge. The gas cartridge is screwed under the barbecue. This barbecue has retractable feet to minimize space in the storage bag and in your vehicle.
  • Safari Chef “LP” (Low Pressure) works with a pressure regulator and pressure reducer on a gas bottle. This barbecue has retractable legs to minimize space in the storage bag and in your vehicle.
  • Safari Chef Compact works directly with a clip-on gas cartridge. The cartridge is clipped onto the side, in the compartment dedicated to it. This barbecue does not have retractable feet and therefore sits directly on the table or on the ground.

What is the difference between the “Lite” version gas barbecues and the “Standard” version?

The "Lite" and "Standard" barbecues differ in the number of cooking plates included in the pack.

  • The “ Liteversion contains 3 cooking surfaces: Grill, warmer and wok.
  • The “ Standardversion contains 4 cooking surfaces: Grill, hotplate, wok and plancha.

The Safari Chef barbecue stove offers 5 cooking modes:

  1. The ribbed or grill plate of the barbecue will allow you to grill meat, fish, vegetables, etc. directly on your stove.

  2. The smooth plate or plancha (optional) of the barbecue will allow you to cook crepes, pancakes, eggs, bacon, vegetables, etc. directly on your stove. This plate is very practical because it replaces frying pans.

  3. The wok mode can be used thanks to the barbecue lid . You just have to turn the lid over to put your food inside and use it as a wok. The enamel coating prevents food from sticking. Our little tip: use wooden or silicone utensils so as not to scratch your lid.

  4. The warming mode can be used if you remove all the included equipment such as the lid, grill or plancha. You will then be able to use the base provided to cook your favorite recipes. You can choose to remove the drip tray or leave it when it is windy. It will serve as a windbreak and protect the flames from drafts.

  5. The pizza stone (optional) with a diameter of 25cm or 30cm will allow you to enjoy good homemade pizzas, bake bread, focaccias, croissants, pain au chocolat (or chocolatine :)), etc.

Which regulator should you choose for your Safari Chef LP (Low Pressure) barbecue?

Which regulator should you choose for your Cadac barbecue?

First of all, what is a regulator used for?

The regulator guarantees optimal use of your gas bottle by regulating the pressure at its outlet , thus ensuring an optimal flow rate in complete safety.

Regulators are only required for Safari Chef Low Pressure BBQ Stoves only (LP BBQ Stove).

It is essential to choose a regulator that is compatible with the gas cylinder you plan to use, as each type of cylinder requires a specific regulator.

3 regulators are compatible with Safari Chef LP (Low Pressure) stoves and barbecues:

  1. THE EN41 7 cartridge regulator allows low pressure appliances to operate with EN417 screw gas cartridges. It easily screws onto a threaded gas cartridge or gas cartridges with 7/16" EN417 universal fitting.
  2. The Campingaz Overflow regulator (8515-OF) allows you to connect your Safari Chef LP barbecue stove to a Campingaz gas bottle (Campingaz type 901 / 904 or 907).
  3. The Universal Overflow Regulator (8510-OF) allows low pressure devices to operate through a universal connection with 1/4” left hand external thread fitting.

Which gas bottle should you choose for your barbecue?

The different gas bottles for your Cadac chef safari

The gas bottle must be chosen according to your needs .

It is essential to understand the different types of gas cylinders, their availability in France and abroad, as well as to assess your expected gas consumption for your road trip.

  • The Bayonet Cartridges (SSN-29) (designed for the Safari Chef Compact BBQ Stove only) , are compact and store directly in the grill. Their small size makes them ideal for occasional meals on a road trip.
  • Campingaz bottles come in different sizes and are easy to find if you are travelling in France.
  • EN417 cartridges are also available in different sizes and are easy to find in France and abroad.
  • Universal bottles are large gas bottles, very heavy and not very mobile, therefore not very suitable for converted vehicles (except for those who have made a specific conversion to supply their vehicle with them).

The little extra for LP (low pressure) barbecue stoves:
      Quick coupling

Sometimes a coupler is also needed for your gas bottle.

      But what exactly is it?

The coupler is a small part that is only used for the stove that requires the use of a regulator. It allows you to more easily remove your regulator from the barbecue.

When preparing your meals outdoors with a Cadac gas barbecue, it is essential to have the right accessories to ensure easy and safe use .

The Cadac brand offers three types of couplers to meet your gas connection needs: the quick coupling , the elbow quick coupling , and the nipple .

      1. Quick coupling : The quick coupling allows you to clip and unclip the gas supply hose to the barbecue. It works with a Push-Pull system. It is only compatible with the CampinGaz Overflow regulator (8515-OF) and the Universal Overflow regulator (8510-OF) . (Only connects products with a 1/4” European outlet and does not fit the ½ outlet).

Note: When used with the Safari Chef, the legs of this appliance can no longer be folded.

      2. The elbow quick coupling : The quick coupling allows you to clip and unclip the gas supply hose to the barbecue.

      3. Gas nipple with steering wheel : The gas nipple makes it easier to unscrew the gas hose thanks to its blue handwheel. It is suitable for 1/4” inch left-hand thread. Don’t forget to use a hose clamp (included with the regulator) to properly tighten the hose around the gas nipple.

What other accessories are available for your outdoor meals?

Some other accessories can be useful for nomadic cooks to cook like at home with the right equipment.

Treat your guests with the various accessories that will perfectly accompany your gas barbecue.

      1. The 25cm Pizza Stone or the 30cm Pro Pizza Stone allow you to make delicious homemade pizzas during your road trips.
      2.

Their differences? Apart from the size of the stones, the pro pizza stone differs from the classic pizza stone by its aluminum heat divider located under the stone and in direct contact with the flame. This heat divider allows an optimal distribution of heat over the entire surface of the stone . It also has a storage bag .

        • The coffee maker and percolator stand allows you to prepare a delicious hot drink by placing the stand on the grills of your stove. You can then place your moka, percolator, cup, etc. directly on your camping stove.
